SRNET is part of a bigger picture — Canada’s National Research and Education Network (NREN). Twelve provincial and territorial network partners, together with CANARIE, collectively form the NREN. This powerful digital infrastructure connects Canadians to national and global data, tools, colleagues and classrooms that fuel the engine of innovation in today’s digital economy.
The NREN is a powerful example of nationwide collaboration in support of research and innovation that benefits all Canadians.
It comprises a system of high-speed, fiber optic networks. The backbone network is CANARIE, Canada’s Advanced Research and Innovation Network, which connects Canadians to over 100 similar advanced networks internationally. SRNET is Saskatchewan's provincial network.
The NREN provides critical infrastructure for emerging applications such as cloud computing, data storage, visualization and distribution, and advanced videoconferencing. Each provincial network contributes their own unique specialties to the success of Canada's research network. The National Research and Education Network supports access to data and tools for Canadians participating in leading-edge research, innovation, and discovery.
